I took a couple of community courses back in high school purely for personal academic enrichment, but since AMCAS stated it wanted all of our transcripts, I sent them in. I took a couple courses the summer before entering freshman year of college and noticed that those classes/their grades were factored into my freshman year GPA (the others before that were a separate high school GPA). I didn't do very well on the courses and so it makes a big difference in my BCPM GPA. Were the courses correctly identified as "freshman year" or could I submit a change requesting it to be placed under "high school"? Thanks!

The High School label only applies to courses taken prior to your high school graduation date. Since you presumably graduated before the summer semester, those courses would not qualify as High School.

Furthermore, AMCAS states that the Summer session is a part of the academic year it precedes...thus the summer before college begins is a part of your freshman year, the summer between freshman and sophomore year is your sophomore summer, etc. The summer after your college graduation would be considered a part of your postbaccalaureate work, because it happens after receipt of a baccalaureate degree.

The AMCAS year begins with summer and ends with spring. Courses taken in the summer should be entered with the next academic year, even if your institution considers them in the previous year

Thank you very much for your insight and response. Back then, I never really thought about the consequences of not doing as well as I wanted in some some side courses before college so it was a bit of a shock to see.
