academic dismissal and medical school

i am just curious to know if anyone ever got into medical school after an academic dismissal...

I graduated undergrad with a gpa .44 above getting academically dismissed and I pulled it together in grad school and got in....not the same but similar

I was dismissed after freshman year because of academic problems, but I was able to successfully appeal the dismissal and get reinstated. However, several semesters of academic probation and the academic dismissal are on my permanent record and I mentioned it on my AMCAS and on secondaries.

I have had multiple interviews, including at some top schools, and have an acceptance so far. MD-only, btw.

Yes, the academic dismissal will be a negative. The more important thing is how you recover from it afterwards. I maintained a 4.0 with 20+ credit hours/semester for nearly 3 years straight after my dismissal to fight back from around a 1.5 GPA to nearly a 3.6. Interviewers were very impressed with this and I think my story of hitting rock bottom and bouncing back into competitive range intrigued adcoms and got me interviews/acceptances.

It'll be hard, no doubt. But not impossible. Good luck!

Life Krafty said, you have to mention what you learned from the experience and how it made you want to be a better doctor... or something like that.

Don't try to hide it. If you apply to Washington University, they will ask for a signature from the Dean stating that you have not been involved in academic dishonesty. gl!

I came close to this freshman year (struggling to get sober that year). Pretty much the same story applying--3.9+ for 4 years after that with 15-20 credits a semester, plus several credits from dual-enrollment/passing out of classes, a good MCAT, and lots of ECs/leadership/work. Just figure out what you did wrong and fix it. If you do well and learn from it, they'll forgive bad grades/dismissal from school/honors program...

I didn't even know I got dismissed from the honors program when I got bored of the 0-credit "mandatory" lectures!

Freshman year ftw 😀

Hello! I was wondering as to what to do regarding an Academic Dismissal. I left the college, and am currently going to Community College. I have very good grades and recovered pretty well. Should I transfer to a different U? Will they take me?? I mean its always going to be on my permanent record right?
