I need everyone's help and input.

I have been charged with one count of academic misconduct. I graduate in 4 months and i will be applying to dental school in june. I have a 3.6 G.P.A. a ton of research at my school, volunteering and internships. Have I have learned my lesson and will never do it again. Have I completely ruined my career? Do you know of anyone who has gotten in with one academic misconduct charge??? Help.

No, you haven't ruined your career over such a charge. You have an excellent academic record and I don't see something like that holding you back from your goal. However, I do recommend being honest about it on your AADSAS application and you need to be able to discuss (if it comes up in your potential interviews) what forced you to do such a thing? ... how you've learned from your mistake? ... and how you plan on conducting yourself not only in dental school, but in practice? ... of course, there will be those adcoms who will simply look over you due to this charge as there are hundreds of highly-qualified applicants... but I'm sure you will get your shot at a few schools - just be prepared to talk about it.

First FIND out if its on your transcript... You do that buy calling registrar or deans office, if you do not have time i would suggest you request a transcript to your house to double check. If its not in there then you will know what to do 😉

I was charged with an academic misconduct my freshman year of college and as a result had gotten a O on my transcript which meant I failed the class and it was because of this misconduct. I talked to my school and was able to get it changed to an F on my transcript by taking a class on academic honesty and just to tell you I got accepted to all 3 of my pre december 1st interviews

OK ... Now this is some sound advice! 😱 Let's recommend to someone to intentionally lie about his/her academic misconduct. I don't care who anyone is, if you don't have the balls to admit and defend your actions and prove how sorry you are for what you did while letting your other achievements support how good you are, then you DO NOT deserve to get into a dental program. This advice that peanutb gave is a prime example of how unethical people have become these days. Whether or not peanutb has ever done this is not the point. It is the fact he has actually thought about it and is recommending doing it.

I don't know about other schools, but for Tufts you have to send a form to your undergraduate school asking them if you have any academic misconduct. If it's on your record (even if its not on your transcript) they need to report it. At our interview they told as that they often get "surprises" , the schools will report misconduct when the applicant did not disclose anything in their application. This is grounds for revoking an acceptance.

Lying about academic misconduct is a bad idea just as cheating or whatever you did was a bad idea too - look where it got you. Learn from your past mistakes and be honest on your application.

If you get caught lying about cheating after acceptance, my guess is that the school could expel you. I would certainly disclose the information and be prepared to defend your actions.

However, if I were the person deciding whether or not to interview you...I wouldn't. We have to assume that you weren't caught on your first offense and that your grades are inflated because of your cheating. Schools get hundreds of applications from honest people (and many from people smart enough to not get caught) that deserve more attention.

Your best bet is probably to challenge the accusation and attempt to prove your innocence so that the reprimand can be expunged, if innocent and if there is a mechanism to do so.

navy guy, i never told him to lie. Its their decision, not mine. I am just suggesting that double check w/ deans office & registrars, to see if its still there, if its not there whats the point of just mentioning it? As someone here has stated that their is a chance to get it changed to F. Miss communication. What i was suggesting is CHECK to make sure its there, if it is explain it other wise if its not there learn a lesson from it. Everyone in life deserves a second chance.

I think the rule is that you are going to have to answer "yes" to that question, no matter if it shows up on your transcript or not. An expunged record is not a clean record in this case.

Academic misconduct, as well as any criminal history (including arrest without conviction) should be reported. If anything comes up after the fact, it will be grounds for dismissal. Cheating is a big no-no. Helping someone cheat is just as bad. The D schools have been through enough scandals, and want to weed out all potential threats during the app process.
