Hey,

So I was wondering: Is academic probation in graduate school frowned upon as much as it is in undergrad by the adcoms? My GPA dipped to below a 3 this quarter (I slipped a disc and had problems studying) and im on probation 🙁. If anyone knows anything about this please let me know.

I would figure it would be much worse...

1. It's more recent
2. Grad GPAs tend to be inflated, raising the standards

That being said, you have an explanation, so make sure you put it on your application, and the damage will hopefully be reduced.

It's not worse, it's the same as undergrad. Graduate school academic probation is set at the 3.0 threshold, vs. 2.0 for undergrad. This compensates for the "grade inflation" that typically comprises graduate programs.

Perhaps, except adcoms look at grad school as the "redeeming" and "proving" ground given an applicant has a less than stellar undergraduate portfolio.

It is not going to look good at all...
