The university that I attended out of high school offers an academic renewal policy after 5+ years. They allow full semesters to be left out of gpa calculation. I believe that the grades still show up on the transcripts. How does this work with aacomas? Will they leave those semester's grades out of the gpa calculations?

Thanks

I don't think AACOMAS will leave that semester's grades out... The only way to not have a grade count, is to retake the class and the old grade will be replaced. Idk though, maybe someone else on here as more knowledge on the subject??

I'm pretty sure you're right. Most university grade forgiveness type things are not taken into account by AACOMAS. But it seems to be okay because when they calculate science GPAs, it is done using the retake grade of any required pre-reqs. Anyone please correct me if I'm wrong...

It'll be okay only if you retook every class. AACOMAS and the schools will still see your transcript. So your school GPA may be different from your AACOMAS GPA. For instance, say you took Underwater Basket Weaving and Organic I and got C's in both. Also assume this is the semester you use your university's forgiveness policy. So the college won't see these classes but AACOMAS will. If you retake the Organic I class, then the most recent retake will replace the C. Also, Underwater Basket Weaving will be including in your GPA. Comprendes?

If the classes & grades still show up on your transcript, I'm pretty positive that AACOMAS is going to count them. Just because your school has 'academic renewal' doesn't mean it applies to AACOMAS. The only time a grade isn't going to count into the final GPA calculation is when you retake the class in which case only the most recent grade is incorporated into the GPA.

You must put down each and every single class you ever took for college credit. Aacomas and amcas don't give a flying fig about academic renewal or grade forgiveness. Aacomas gives you a little break as you can retake courses you did craptacularly in for a better grade.

Sorry, academic renewal or second chance doesn't mean squat in med school. Those bad grades still count.

I too have applied for academic renewal at my community college. The unfortunate thing is that once you apply for academic renewal, you promise never to retake the class again. So while your school may waive it from your GPA, you're never allowed to make it up again! If I had known that, I would have never done the academic renewal because now I'm stuck with that grade on my GPA as far as aacomas is concerned! GRR

Also, I did call and verify what everyone above has posted. They do not accept academic renewal, you MUST retake it.

Retake it at another college, problem solved. Special policies of schools don't have any impact on real life applications to professional schools.

Considering the OP was 5 years ago, and that the OP had now both completed her degree and started a post bacc, I think you should have stayed a new thread for your current situation.

What you should do to handle this is do your stakes at another institution. AACOMAS doesn't care where the takes occur, so long as the courses are equivalent. Good luck!
