There's a bunch of programs out there where average/below average/state/or other medical schools offer accelerated 7 year programs and other early acceptance programs. Some require MCATs and some don't.
Obviously the thought of not having to go through the regular application process and not having to spend time studying are huge pluses, but are those only superficially good? Usually, they are reserved for super-competitive/credentialed applicants, but sometimes it feels like they are trying too hard when they can do much better in the regular cycle.
With all that being said, those early acceptance programs are still very appealing. Would you say the 7 year programs are worth it (most of the kids who get in probably don't even comprehend what they're in for)? Would the early acceptance programs be worth it even if it requires taking the mcats? Should very competitive applicants who seem on track and in reach to a top MD school if they applied regularly still try for these early acceptance programs at less well known med schools?
What's the common view about these programs?
