Accept/Decline Loans

Hey, once you accept a loan for dental school, can you decline it later if I choose not to use it anymore? Or is it set in stone?
How does the entire Loan process work exactly? Once I accept a loan, do I just sit back and relax (haha), or what is the process I must go through?
