By posting in the dental section instead of pre-dental, I am hoping to hear some success stories of people getting into d-school after doing the Midwestern MA in biomedical sciences.
I have a phone interview on Thursday with them and I am seriously considering attending the program. My main concern is the $$$$. I have had some feedback from other people saying that it is not a smart way to go because of the money, there are no guarantees, and there is not really a tie to the d-school at Midwestern.
Have any of you done that program and then been accepted to d-school? Did you apply during the program, or after completion? Did you have a family (spouse/kids) while going through?
Thanks for your help....

My roommate did the MA at Midwestern. He said a lot of the people from his program got accepted to MW but they weren't accepted right away and were wait-listed for a while. Luckily he got into the other AZ school 😉 Another guy from the 2 year MS program got into Baylor, but that program is longer and has research.

I applied after the program and was accepted (not to MWU though, didnt apply there). Plenty of my classmates (c/o of 2010) got in during and after the program...its a good mix, and an excellent program.

I am completely torn... I have heard from some people that it was a terrible experience and it killed their chances of ever getting in. The money scares me to death because if I don't get in, there isn't a whole lot I can do with that specific degree.
Were there a lot of pre-dental people? I have heard that it is geared a little more toward pre-med students. Did you feel that way? Do they "guarantee" you an interview if you keep your GPA where they want it to be? Do you know if people got multiple offers to different schools? I would love to go to MWU, but $$$ talks in this case.
I have my phone interview with them on Thursday. What should I expect?
Thanks for the help!

In any program, there are going to be some people that like it, and some that don't...it's all about how you make it. Being that it is a graduate level science degree, it does portray how well you may perform in dental school, and if you don't do well, it does hurt you more than help, but on the flip side, if you do really well, it puts you on another level as an applicant. Ending your education with that degree does limit your career choices, and if the finances of it really make you uneasy, then don't do it, but you receive a really good education and thats what your paying for. It was almost a 50/50 mix of dental and med, along with PA, PT, Podiatry, etc. in my class, not sure about the class this year. I wouldn't say it was geared toward medicine, because the majority of the core classes you take, the dental students take as well (not at the same time though). There is a guaranteed interview if you keep the GPA status. I knew a few people that had multiple offers while in the program and the same for ones that applied once they finished. The phone interview is real relaxed, they just want to get to know you, hear about your goals, and give you an overview of the program and have them answer any questions you may have. Just keep in mind, that the program cannot promise anything, the only thing it can do is provide one with an opportunity to become a better professional school applicant and lay the foundation to do really well once in professional school.

Good luck.
