Took my DAT this morning. I only studied 2.5 weeks which included Christmas, New Years, and my sisters wedding, so it was a real busy 2.5 weeks. Thought I would do better in a couple areas, especially QR, on my practice tests I was averaging a 20. Well, here are my scores.

PA-17
QR-15
RC-20
BIO-17
GCHEM-18
OCHEM-15
TS-16
AA-17

My GPA is a 3.7 and I have around 150 volunteer hours at a clinic. My first choice would be Midwestern-AZ. Let me know what you think my chances are. Most likely I will retake the DAT in the summer. Thanks for the input!

I think your TS is your biggest problem Your gpa is great though. Retake and study longer!

anything under 19 is a red flag for alot of schools even if you do have the gpa

A DAT retake is a must partner. I had almost identical scores my first attempt, had a higher GPA, I applied to ten schools (including MWU-AZ) during the 2012 cycle, and received no offers.

Pretty slim unless you are a URM. Not impossible but unlikely.

Definitely need a retake. You should try to raise all your scors. RC is fine but a 17 isn't good. I know someone who was accepted last year to iowa and UMKC with a 17 but she had amazing stats otherwise and her TS wasn't a 16. Your GPA is fine but shoot for a 19 or higher and you will be good.

Definitely retake. A 17 AA, 16 TS will not be competitive unless you are applying to Meharry as a URM.

ehhh, sdnitis...

I agree. A 19 is the average accepted. 18s are accepted all the time. 19 would be ideal but not essential. I wouldn't say it is necessarily a red flag as long as you apply realistically with good stats otherwise.

I'd suggest a retake. If you really think you'll specialize in OMFS, you can totes do better on the DAT. Plus, it'll be good practice for the super high grades you'll be needing to make in DS. 😀

Hey! I'm attending MWU this fall and my gpa was ~3.7 as well! They gave me an interview before my retake with my 19/18/15 so as long as you bring up your AA a couple of points you'll be a great candidate for an interview. Apply super early as well because MWU was the first interview invite I got.

I wouldn't tell you to make it to certain score but would rather recommend that give yourself 6-8 weeks . Two weeks for hardcore studies know all you can then next two weeks test the waters and by that i mean not taking practice test but throw terms reactions formulas at yourself and see if you come up with answer within 15-20 seconds if your answer is yes move on if no then go back and learn it again you can try DAT destroyer for this part too. then the rest of your week until day before your test practice practice practice and more practice with all the questions you can get hold of...day before your test quit studying by this point if you are not confident ... either trust yourself or cancel your exam....jk... Don't worry you will be fine if have learned well it will comeback during exam... Last minute study won't help infact it will make you exhausted.... I was doing 24, 25 for QR during my practice... But on real one I was way tired to even finish I literally randomly clicked 10 or so questions...part of reason was not timing myself during practice... For some reason I felt frustrated to time myself for this section and you know the result I did i think 18 on real one.if nothing works then extend your exam date 🙂 GOOD LUCK!

I'd probably retake..
I have similar AA (18), but with lower OC/GC, but higher PAT/RC..
My TS is also 16, I don't think it'll be competitive enough.. and you still have 5-6 months before applications open up again.

I applied early and I had 16 TS 22 PAT 21 RC 22QR and got rejected from Midwestern az, i was a math major, 3.4 sgpa and 3.2ogpa, I've been a dental assistant for 4 years and my father is a dentist... so I know my stuff.. I'd retake, which is what I'm doing, to improve my science scores

Don't despair, you have plenty of time to retake! You have the entire spring semester. Best of luck!
