Not sure if this has been answered elsewhere but I couldnt find the answer. Does anyone know how long you have until you have to make a decision on the school you are attending. I know you have to pay the deposit to hold a spot but when do you have to make the final decision. I think MD is around may but when is DO?

I don't think the osteo schools are like the allo schools. I don't believe there is any final date or a system where the schools can see all the acceptances you hold. This is probably solved by the huge deposits required. Most people will only pay a second deposit if they are 100% sure they would rather attend the 2nd school and then will withdraw from the 1st school.

With allo schools it's probably not a really big deal to pay the small deposits and then wait until May to make the final decision.

Thats good to hear. So I guess if you pay the deposit the school just expects you to show up unless you let them know. I think you have to at least pay the deposit to the first school you get accepted to even if its not your first choice. You never know if you will get a second acceptance.

When I got my acceptance to medical school I was given 2 weeks to come up with a deposit or forfeit my acceptance. The schools actually let you drag it out now??? That would seem to put a lot of waitlisted students in a huge pinch so close to starting and leave the schools hanging and unsure about filling the classes.

I believe most schools still only give you 2 weeks to pay the deposit but if you have the money and acceptances you can hold on to several acceptances from different schools until you actually matriculate. At least thats my understanding from the above posts.

This early in the cycle, most schools follow AACOMAS traffic guidelines, so you have until Dec 14, after that it starts at 30 days and gets shorter and shorter.

Some of the schools such as LECOM and Touro don't follow the traffic guidelines.

Sorry but what does that mean? Do you have until Dec 14 to pay the deposit or until Dec 14 to tell the school if you are going to matriculate with them or not. Also do you know if NOVA follows this?

It means you have until Dec 14 to pay the deposit if accepted before Nov 15. I think the school assumes if you pay the deposit you plan on matriculating. But there is no rule that you can't change your mind later and attend a different school, you just lose your deposit.

Nova does follow traffic guidelines. Check the CIB for other schools info.
