Hi, I was wondering if the interviewer said he/she would offer you a seat in their dental school during your interview, but you never got an acceptance letter and was put on the waitlist....what would you do? Can you get accepted during an interview?

technically, schools aren't allowed to hand out acceptances prior to December 1st. You MIGHT get some suggestive comments during the interview, but you have to remember that with some of the schools, the interview team may have little to do with the admissions committee. The interviewer may love you to bits, but the admissions committee has the final say on whether or not you get in.

True. Plus, acceptance isn't official until you get that acceptance letter in your hand.

decisions are made by the committee not just one individual.

Someone I interviewed with mentioned that they were accepted at a school on the spot by the dean or something like that. Got a call and message from the admissions office before the interview day was even over. this was post december.

so what if you were put on the waitlist? Would you contact the guy who offered the spot by e-mail and ask what hindered you from getting a spot?

hold your horses until is a confirm rejection. you dont want to look to disparate🙄

Write a loi like a couple paragraphs & send it to them vai email or snail mail. TO the schools email address. Then tell the admin to file that letter under your file. First call and ask if you can do such a thing. call the admin.

Officially, they can't. But IDK... I was in the same situation as you. I was pretty sure I was 99.99% accepted into one school I interviewed at. The interview was spectacular and he even introduced me to the other staff, and strongly hinted I was "in." End results was a waitlist as well *mumbles*

Now, in hindsight I do remember this school strongly focusing on your RC score (and mine was not great). And I agree with the above posters saying that it's a committee decision and not an individual one. Good luck though!

I was told the same thing.. and my interviewer said "I hope you accept our offer too!" and I was placed on the waitlist!! 😕

some interviewers(to make themselves feel better) make you feel so good and they make you think that you will get in. But dont be fooled until you get the letter. the guy will be the same for next 100 people he interviews... Nothing is certain until its on paper. the interviewers know how far you travel and how much you spend so they dont want to ruin couple months or coupe weeks before your letter.

in their minds its less painful this way.

And no one know until the committee decides. NOT AN INDIVIDUAL

This makes sense. It's so sad though! I wonder if we all had the same interviewer..
