I have two case scenerios that I would like some feedback on...

1) You hear back from a dental school on Friday/Saturday (whenever) and they accept you. By virtue of being accepted, do other schools now know that you were accepted? Do the other schools now hesitate to accept you?

2) You hear back from a dental school on Friday/Saturday (whenever) and they accept you. You then pay the seat-reservation fee (anywhere from 500-1000 dollars) for that school. By virtue of being accepted and paying the fee, do other schools know that you've paid the seat-reservation fee? Will other schools now hesitate to accept you now that you've paid the fee for that school?

Thanks for any feedback! I've heard that you can reserve at multiple schools but I don't know how valid that statment is.

Schools don't know about other schools 'til May 1.

I believe that answers both questions.

Besides, schools don't know if they are your #1 choice. It wouldn't be fair of them to reject you based on another acceptance because that might be the case. You might be forced into accepting your #2 or #3 or w/e because you haven't yet heard from your #1. So of course you still want your #1 to accept you.

The problem is on May 1 when you have more than 1 school that you're holding a spot in.

This is what I heard from one of the deans of the schools I interviewed at. he said the same thing as far as schools not knowing who has been accepted where till May.

But don't they know if you've payed or not? I've heard others say that the schools could find out if they wanted too, not that it would matter.

Ignoring whether they could find out or not, I'm sure having a deposit for acceptance at one school would not harm your chances of getting an offer at another. As was mentioned ^ the sconed school could be your top choice. They are competing for you at this point.

Schools only know about you if you applied to them, up until May 1. You could apply to all 50+ schools through AADSAS and for all they know, you only applied to just theirs.

i somewhat disagree with the fact that they dont know where you have applied to... at each school that i've interviewed at, they have known about some of the others that i applied to....

this leads me to believe that there is some sort of agreement between some schools to exchange lists? maybe i am totally off base, but each school knew and was able to name some of the specific schools, in some cases all, and in some cases only some

Denticus-when I was at UNLV I asked them this and they said they can't know you ahve 2+ deposits at 2+ schools until may... Thats when they give you the ultimatum

From what I've heard, medical schools do exchange lists, negotiate for certain students, and try (as a collective whole) not to offer TOO many acceptances to any individual candidate. I don't know if dental schools do the same -- I wouldn't be surprised if it were the case, and I wouldn't be surprised if it weren't.

I disagree as well that the schools don't know about any other schools because it says on your AADSAS application where you applied too, and they have access to this online. They may also see every place you were accepted when this is updated. However, they will not know where you paid your holding fee too, unless they call those individual schools that they see you were accepted at, which I doubt they do, but who knows.
