Congrats to those accepted already! 🙂
I plan to apply next year. My goal schools are USyd and UMelb.

Question to anyone out there who have been accepted is what was your MCAT or GAMSAT score and GPA and from where did you receive an offer?
I know the cutoff for MCAT is said to be above 8/8/8/M but I wanted to know some real stats for international students.

Also, is anyone familiar with how they convert GPA that is on the 4.0 scale as in the U.S. to the Australian 7.0 scale?

Hey TSD,

I have no experience with USyd or UMelb, but I did apply to the Flinders GEMP and I was offered an interview and eventually a spot in their first round of offers. My GPA and MCAT score are somewhat low - 27Q (10 bio / 9 VR / 8 Phys) and a GPA of 3.7. I am a Canadian citizen, and it is much easier to get into an Aussie school than a Canadian school (I think unless my MCAT score was 34Q or higher I might not be considered), but they still have standards.

I think what got me in was my interview - I feel like I rocked it and gave them a good impression of who I am and why I want to pursue medicine.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

argh this is weird. i applied with 29O and GPA>3.7 and I didn't even get an interview..... da heck.... did you apply really early?

gosh I can't barely remember my GAMSAT score.. i think the cutoff is a minimum 59% in every section for USYD, my GPA was i think 4.0 but you only need 3.5. From memory that's only a credit average but if you stuff up a single subject and get say 53% and a pass in your undergrad you need several distinctions to balance that out.

When I applied only your last 3 years of undergrad counted to GPA. 3rd year weighting 3x as heavily as first year.

I would like to say yes, but to be honest I applied about 4 days before the deadline (which was June 28 or something like that). How did you apply? I applied through Acer, and Flinders was my first pick (U syd was second). If you also applied through ACER and Flinders wasn't your first school, it could be that your first choice denied you a spot for an intreview after Flinders had already made all their interview offers. Also, what was your degree in? Mine was a Specilization degree in Immunology and Infection, so maybe that helped as well...?

I'm really not sure what else dude, but don't get discouraged! Keep applying!

hey treva, thanks for your reply. my degree was in immunology and microbio. not sure what you meant by specialization, but mine is a science degree.... i actually applied directly to the school.... oh well this sux.. Flinders was my first choice.... but i'm going to attend UQ in Jan. best of luck.

I was accepted into USydMP with an MCAT of 31P and my OMSAS GPA of 3.85. Hope this helps.

I had 33Q and 35P on my MCAT (I took it twice). My GPA is about 3.6. I was offered a position in UQ. Didn't apply to USyd or Melbourne. Got rejected from Flinders for whatever reason. I'm glad because I prefer Brisbane over Adelaide anytime. It's too hot in Adelaide :laugh::laugh:

My MCAT score was 33Q and my gpa is 4.1/4.5 (not exactly sure on 4.0 scale). I was accepted at Flinders and Sydney. Will be going to Flinders.

I can't believe someone with your stats can't get into a Canadian med school. It's crazy! But you'll do great and have lots of fun at Flinders.

Canada has a messed up admissions process - very messed up.

I second that.. 35S, 3.6/4.0 here.. and I'm finishing my second year at UQ. Not planning on returning to Canada though.. 😛

I have an acceptance from USyd. My converted GAMSA gpa for USyd was 6.58/7.0, (and just to show how silly gpa calculations can be my AMCAS gpa is 3.25/4.0, while my AACOM gpa is 4.4/4.0, its all how you do the math!). MCAT was 34O. I'm from California.

I said this once and I will say it again: Ontarians and Californians are the two most screwed pool of applicants simply because of their geographical status. Period.

Why are you not planning on returning?

- GF isn't Canadian.. and Canada's tough to get into if you're not a citizen
- US is much friendlier to non-citizens (ie. Her = Aussie, Me = Canadian)
- Brisbane has spoiled me - I can but don't want to handle Canada's winter. =)

😀 I wish you both all the best! U.S. has a lot more opportunities anyways, which is why I am hoping to study there.

My GPA was low (3.5-ish), and my MCAT was a 30R. I do have a lot of school and life experience, though. You don't always have to focus on the grades, especially if you took a longer path to medical school. A lot of people don't realize they are a perfect fit for medicine until after they've finished their undergrad degree.

WOW. That's awesome, Achara. I'm sure your scores give others hope.

Although, I've gotta say, you must have had a hell of an application. =)

Congrats!
I would like my two choices to be USyd and UMelb next year.
My cumultive GPA was 3.69
I have to take the MCAT next year.
What would you consider a safe MCAT score to be considered for either schools with my GPA?
