well, i'm pretty sure med schools don't accept c minuses, so you are gonna have to retake. on the case of ruining your chances to med school, i wouldn't worry if you can come up with a decent explanation of why you got a c-. good luck

Begging the professor might be a good idea.

This class is not a pre-req so how does it matter? If you are unsure, CALL THE SCHOOL!!!!

Seriously, when you can just call the school and get a definitive answer why would you post on SDN? This isn't time for a matter of opinions. Are you just looking for sympathy or trolling? I can't handle this.

Trying hard to not throw out Burnett's...but are you really this immature and lacking in life skills?

Call the school.

He's just looking for advice.... Every question here could be answered with -- CALL AAMC CALL YOUR PREMED OFFICE CALL THE MED SCHOOL CALL YOUR LOCAL DOCTOR--

Don't think he/she is trolling... Just looking for some answers/advice

and if you aren't trolling, I think as long as you passed the class you should be fine. but definitely contact the schools!

Oh, in that case: "relax, bro, I still matriculated with a C-" followed by "sorry man, my friend got his acceptance rescinded for getting a C"

Advice ftw.

I don't know if it would be worse if the OP is serious or if this is their best shot at trolling.

Maybe I'm too used to going on messageboards where "trolling" constitutes pornography or just blatantly trying to get a rise out of people... But I don't see how this is anymore "trollish" then me asking "How do I find out whether my transcript was sent to AMCAS" When I could just "Call the AAMC"

This is false. They don't accept C-'s for PRE-REQUISITES.

If it's just some lame class, I wouldn't worry that much.

oh...and congratulations on your acceptances...

But if it's a C- for your major .... Then you don't have an undergrad degree

What? How the hell do you come up with this stuff?

C- is not considered passing at my school (A 4 year research school) (Although it depends on the class)

You DO NOT get your degree with a C-. Don't know where the hell you get your information.

Thank goodness i only found out about this site after being accepted, or it would have driven me crazy. You guys are neurotic lol. Just called my undergrad (UC Berkeley), anything above a D is passing for the major. The med school said residnment of accptance only if I fail a class. PHEWWWW talk about a close call.

So are you receiving your bachelors degree?

Haha oh i'll admit im neurotic alright, but my neurotisicm+ all neuroticism on this site would have been a bad combination!
Yes yes apparently none of us premeds knew this because we are so focused on getting A's but i just found out that even if i got all C-s during my college career, and D's as long as my average is 2.0 i would have passed hahha. So much for working my tail off for that 3.8...but hey a 2.0 would not have gotten me into med school.

I want what this kid is smoking. Only 2 people in the world can pull this off: Chuck Norris and Charlie Sheen.

Words of wisdom right here.

don't panic, i really wouldn't worry about it if its not a prereq...
i'd be more concerned with what your undergrad school's gonna do about it if its a requirement for your major.

I think you should first review your school's requirements, since each school has a different policy. Then call your office to clarify what your grade will cause in terms of your application. Discuss it with the professor and see if he budges--maybe you have a good reason?

Luckily its not really a problem anymore since my counselor said a C- is passing for my major, and i called the med school and they too said it was not a problem.
But this professor is a pure jerk, i was 1 point away from a C, 1 point!!!! I understand fairness and all, but if it came down to me not graduating because i needed a C, which is what i thought when i initially went to talk to him, imagine the horror. Everything i'd worked for could've been ruined because of 1 point!!! Thats 1 damn question, some people should really try to be more understanding. The sad thing is people cheat in this class so much and he doesnt notice. And he was preaching some fairness bull**** to me when i went to talk to him, i had to bite my tongue to not mention that i saw people cheating during his final.

This.

And also find out if you have enough credits and the courses needed to graduate. If you do not and the school requires a baccalaureate degree, then you final option is hurry the hell up and do a summer course to make it up.

(No offense, but I don't see senioritis as an excuse to do badly before matriculation.) Never mind I take back this statement from my previous post. Yep there will always be one of "those" professors so make sure you get on those summer courses if you need to take them.

Hopeful everything goes well for you anyway.

This thread could make a freight train take a dirt road

I'll experience the validity or lack thereof of this statement August 1st when I hear back ED (C- in physics II), and get back to you

Why is everyone pissed at the OP and not at the *****ic post #2? I guess my sarcasm detector is broken and everyone else knows for sure that #2 isn't srs : d

See, no need for your initial worries, since your med school doesn't even consider it a problem! At my medical school, we need to have C's or greater in all of classes. Apparently at whatever your school is, you don't! 🙂

Good luck and glad you kept your cool!

Hey, you can get C's and still be president! Instead of taking care of a few patients a day, you're screwing 300 million a day instead.
Sounds good to me.

Note to OP: Your school doesn't care. Unless you're failing out of college and are not receiving your degree, your medical school isn't really gonna give a cr*p. Your GPA for ranking purposes is the one you submitted on your AMCAS anyway. It has no effect on them and no one is going to care about a C- in what I assume is a random humanities or social science class, or randomly difficult, obscure upper level science course.

Chill out and enjoy the summer.
