Hi everyone! I was just accepted into Barry's BMS program about two weeks ago and I wanted to see who else was accepted into the program. And if so:
1.) Any pros or cons for going/not going to the school?
2.) Did you apply to other masters programs?
3.) (If you are a female): Are you interested in finding a roommate in the Hollywood area?

hello! first of all congrats! i also got accepted to start this fall. I am doing the dental track, what about you?
At the begining i was really excited, but as i started reading reviews about the program not too much. I also applied to NSU still waiting for a-the II, they are supposed to start coming out this week.

Hey guys,
First off, I want to say congratulations on getting accepted! I am currently a student at the BMS program at Barry and I really like it here. If you put in the hard work and effort, you will definitely see some good results.
Some of the pros:
- the teachers are super approachable and want to see you succeed, the courses you will be taking are very similar to those offered in first year dental students (I talked to students who graduated from Barry and are in their first year)
- there are many resources available for you to volunteer and get involved
- its FLORIDA (the weather is amazing)
cons:
- there are no cadavers available for labs (gross anatomy), so you will be using plastic models and a digital cadaver table for your tests

if you want more reviews of the program, I would check out some other forums for the BMS program

as for room mates, check out the facebook group! there are always students looking for room mates and housing 🙂

- let me know if you have any other questions and congrats again!

Thank you! Congrats to you as well 🙂 I'm doing the premed track. I was skeptical after reading the reviews too but after visiting the school last week I felt a bit more at ease with the program. So, I would encourage you to check out the school when you have the chance. Are you traditional or non-traditional? I wish you the best with NSU🙂

Thank you! On the Facebook page I see that Dr. Chandra is the only one that posts updates. Would it be odd if someone posted something about housing? Or am I on the wrong Facebook page?

You are more than welcome to post there as well! Dr. Chandra said that there is an additional page on Facebook regarding roommates search so you can post there too.

Pamela sent me an email yesterday with the starting days and housing options. I can foward it to you

How competitive is this program. Should I bother applying, my gpa is a 2.85

which track you are applying for?
I had an overall of 2.95 with an 18 in the DAT and I got in, as long as you apply early you should be fine. Also, you should talk to someone from admissions.

The Barry website states that a minimum of a 3.0 GPA is required to apply. However, I have seen students with a slightly lower GPA get accepted. This may be due to a high GRE/MCAT/DAT score, strong letters of recommendation, etc. However, I definitely think you should apply!

I am not traditional at all!! I graduated from college almost 2 years ago, I took my sweet time to take my DAT, and as right now I am working as a personal banker lol. I have been doing some research on the program, and it's bad. I think as long as you have a masters you are in better position than others with a bachelors. Let's see what happens.

What do you mean by bad?

if i do well in my masters program and have an 18 on the dat will i need to retake the dat to be considered for dental school?

I just got accepted also! Just waiting on BU on their decision. Where would we find information about housing/room mate situations? Im pretty sure that the school doesnt actually take care of housing for graduates.

Yeah, like someone has said before, the only thing that can fix GPA is GPA, and the only thing that can fix MCAT/DAT is MCAT/DAT

Hey everyone! I got accepted into Barry University for fall 2015. Anyway thought I try get to know some of you before school starts because I'm traveling all the way from Hawaii so I'm super excited. Also I know that for predent and premed students the classes will be in the Hollywood campus so I was looking into sharing an apartment down there. On the Facebook page, Barry University Housing & Residence Life, I'll post something up there so hopefully any of you can like it or post to help each other out with housing and etc. Looking forward to working with you all.

if you're in the 18 month program is it possible to complete it in a year? and how do you go about doing it?

If you do well after your first semester, you can speak to your advisor and he/she would probably approve it. However, based on feedback from some of my classmates on this track, I wouldn't recommend it. It's very challenging if your intentions are to get A's in all of your courses.

Where are most people living? I'm coming from out of state and was just recently accepted so I'm running short on time to figure out my living/roommate situation. Does anyone know if there are dorms for grad students on the Hollywood campus?

Most people from out of state live around various locations. If you have a car, you can leave areas like ft lauderdale, aventura, and Hollywood. (4 miles from the campus) If you do not plan on bringing car here, I recommend apartments nearby the young circle and hollywood station. You also have an option to live in dormitory, but it is in the north Miami campus.
