I just sent my deposit to the University of Iowa. In a few weeks I am moving to the Caribbean for 3 months and am wondering, what do I have to get done before I leave? Do you guys know when financial aid applications need to be in and other such things? I have no idea what happens now and would hate to miss something important while I am out of the country. Any help you guys could give would be great!

Thanks

I would feel out the FAFSA online and get my tax done. The follow dexadental's 😀 advice 😛

Congratulations on Iowa! I just got my acceptance letter as well.

FAFSA for sure and then just get someone to check your mail for financial aid info ...

May need to have some immunizations before you can matriculate.

So, I opened up my fafsa file online, but there are so many questions I have no clue about?!?! Like my tax stuff....I havent had a job since my carwash job and chik-fil-a job in highschool. Also, if I am independent, why are there 2 million questions about my parents?!?! I dont speak to my parents, so its not like I can call them and get answers....what do I do?!?!?!?!? THANKS 🙂

The parental information is optional. From what I understand there is a lower-interest loan called the 'health professions loan' (something close to that anyway)... To be elegible for this loan they need your parents info -- even if you are 50 years old. They just need their info, the loan is not based on what your folks earn.

I would call the school you are going to attend and speak with the financial aid person and explaion your situation.

I think it is also based on what you earn too. At least that is what O.H.S.U. told me. They said with my husband's & mine and my parents income it would be a waste for me to apply. Besides my dad is ANTI fact finding mission's by the govt. So that is probably a good thing I don't have to ask.
