Hi Everyone,

I got a call off a waitlist yesterday evening, and had some questions about the process.
Do I have to withdraw from my other acceptance I have since it's May? If not, will I forfeit my deposit for the new school if I decide to go to my original acceptance? I didn't expect this to occur, so I have not done my research into the process.

Thanks!

Congrats! Per AAMC's traffic rules (really, it only takes a moment to google this):

6. After April 30, implement school-specific procedures for accepted applicants who, without adequate explanation, continue to hold one or more places at other schools or programs.

a. Each school or program should permit applicants:
1. A minimum of five business days to respond to an acceptance offer. This may be reduced to a minimum of two business days within 30 days of the start of orientation.

2. Submit a statement of intent, a deposit, or both.
b. Recognize the challenges of applicants with multiple acceptance offers, applicants who have not yet received an acceptance offer, and applicants who have not yet been informed about financial aid opportunities at schools to which they have been accepted.

c. Permit applicants who have been accepted or who have been granted a deferral, to remain on other schools' or programs' wait lists. Also, permit these applicants to withdraw if they later receive an acceptance offer from a preferred school or program.
7. Each school's pre-enrollment deposit should not exceed $100 and (except for EDP applicants,) be refundable until April 30. If the applicant enrolls at the school, the school should credit the deposit toward tuition. Schools should not require additional deposits or matriculation fees prior to matriculation.

You will have to withdraw from one of the schools, obviously, but it appears that you have a minimum of 5 days to sit on both offers before making a decision. If you're planning on thinking over the decision, it would be a good idea to let the first school know so that there aren't any miscommunications (they will be able to see that you're accepted to another school, I believe). It appears that the deposit is only required to be refundable through April 30th, though you can check with the first school to see.

Thanks so much for posting this. I apologize for not googling initially. I was a little frenzied, haha.
Thanks again!

Here is a quick fact/checklist for wait list
--After April 30, they need to give you 5 days, dropping to 2 days if within 30 days of that school's orientation.
--Most schools follow the 5 day rule post April 30th. That is, if you get a offer April 28th, expect May 5th to be expected reply to school
--If you get a waitlist acceptance after April 30, the new school has to inform the existing school prior to informing you
--So while all these rules are in place, most schools do not rush to enforce them However, they can and your acceptance can be rescinded without recourse
--You can always call both schools to ask if any questions, concerns, or requests for additional decision time. Doesnt hurt to ask

I was just pulled off a waitlist on Tuesday. The waitlist school that accepted me gave me till the next Tuesday to accept the offer. The acceptance I was previously holding sent me a message today saying I needed to make a decision by tomorrow (Friday). School doesn't start till mid-July, so we're not within the 2-day limit timeframe. Are they allowed to do that? Is there something I can do to have a few more days to think about it?

No. Let them know that you will need a few more days.
