After being accepted to dental school on Dec 1st, I couldn’t tolerate the toxic office manager at my clinic anymore and decided to put my two weeks notice yesterday. I’ve been going full steam since graduating May. I retook the DAT late June and got the DA job early July. I figured since I’ll be working in the dental field for the rest of my life, I should take a step away working 50 hours a week and not stress everyday. Plus I was basically going to work through the holidays with only Dec 24th and 25th off which I won’t be able to celebrate with the family.

Now I’m trying to decide what to do for the next 6 months. Perhaps get a laid back job like bartending or being a waiter. Maybe even take two bio courses at UT Austin specifically immunology and comparative animal physiology. Any suggestions or previous experiences?

Apply for a tutoring job?

Yeah that’s a possibility. I know you can get paid quite a lot. More of a back up though since it doesn’t seem too interesting, and I’ll have to refresh through old materials.

I just saw a soccer coach ad for $20/hour on Craigslist. Hmmm

Congrats on being accepted. The next 6 months, I would advice you to
1 - save as much money as possible if you have 0 savings.
2 - Rest as much as you can, enjoy time with your family and significant other or friends.
3 - Again, rest, so don't take classes just to have exposure. You will want to stop studying and regret not resting when you could have.
4 - Travel if you can.
5 - again, don't do anything that you think will put you in advantage once you are in dental school
Enjoy 🙂

Congrats! I'm kind of on the same boat but I'm planning on picking up another job in the mean time just to save money, the next four years are going to be some what of a financial burden so I figured saving as much money as I can and then quitting a month before I move would be smart to save some money.
