So I called Fran about an hour ago and found out that I will be joining Nova's Class of 2011. I can't explain how happy I am right now. Anyone else hear back today?

Congratulations!! What are your numbers if you dont mind me asking?

I heard back from Nova about 2-3 weeks after my application was complete for an interview. They were waiting for a community college transcript so I didn't hear back until early January even though I turned in everything else in late October.

My gpa is not very "outstanding". Its around 2.7 cumulative and I have OAT scores of 360TS and 350AA.

This really means a lot to me cause I was starting to worry about whether or not I will ever become an optometrist. I was even told by admission counselors, undergrad counselors and even a fellow SDN member to "reconsider my career path." I hope that I can give some hope to those applicants who may not have stellar gpas. I think that a lot of optometry schools are looking for well rounded applicants who display a passion and genuine interest for the field. The application process can be long and at times brutal but I truly believe that if you want it enough, you will eventually reach you goal.
I can't wait to be chillin in the warm Florida weather.😀

It's really good to hear a success story from someone who doesn't have a GPA that's really high, because I'm definitely hanging around in the very low 3.0's right now. Thanks for sharing your stats with us! 🙂

yeah definately nice to hear that with a low gpa it IS possible to obtain admittance.

Hi,

Anyone with the opposite - high GPA and low OAT scores get in to NOVA?

Subiedubie - CONGRATS on the acceptance!!

Thanks everyone for your replies. I'm glad I could offer some hope to those who are in a similar situation.

Also is there anyone from my interview group (1/12/07) that heard back from Nova?

Make sure you put your acceptance onto the Class of 2011 thread in the Optometry forum.

hey subiedubie, if you dont mind. where did you go for ur undergraduate degree? and is this ur first time applying?

I graduated from the University of Washington with a Psychology degree. It was my first time applying to Nova this year but I applied to NECO, ICO, Pacific, and SCCO last year and didn't get accepted.

so did you only apply to nova this yr? (congrats btw!) or did u apply to scco, ico, etc again this yr but with no luck?

I applied to NECO, Indiana, UMSL, SCCO and Nova this year. So far Nova is the only response that I recieved. Thank God it was an acceptance rather than a rejection.

I haven't heard back from any other school, although when I called UMSL they basically told me that my gpa was "simply too low" to be given an interview.
SCCO....I haven't officially heard back, but I heard that you need a minimum of 3.0 gpa to be considered for an interview. No word from Indiana or NECO yet.

NECO finally called me today for an interview. But I'm gonna take Nova.

Does NECO call the applicants for an interview rather than sending an email or letter?
