UWisc is an upper-middle-tier school, well regarded in the midwest but (as your experience indicates) probably not as well known if you intend to seek a residency in CA. Its USNews rank is 25, tied with UVa and UAlabama, one below Case and one above Mount Sinai. It also ties for 3rd for primary care.
In terms of tuition, it's pretty middle-of-the-road for out of state. Unfortunately, I don't know if its possible to establish residency after a year.
That sucks. 👎xadmin said:You can't establish residency after a year if you go here for school. The state stature and the school really made this explicit. I don't understand how they will attract strong candidate from other states and also increase the diversity in their school if they do this. That stature should go.

Apparently so, although I haven't lived there since I was 22 (14 years ago).xadmin said:Liverot, so are you a WI resident?

I qualify because:
a) I went to high school in WI, and
b) My parents have been tax paying residents for the last two years.
At least I think I qualify for this exception. I haven't heard back, yet.
Actually, when I found out about this, I locked them in their home. Seemed a little cruel, but well worth the 40K in tuition. I suppose I should feed them pretty soon; it's been a couple months.missiongirl said:This is from the UW web site if you perform a search. I could hardly believe it, either. So don't let your parents move from the state!
Congrats.
