Just got accepted to the Pre-med program through Indiana University. I think they are going to send me to Indianapolis and IUPUI's campus, but just getting that first letter is such a rush. Aiming to be a trauma surgeon in the long run, anything advice for a driven youngster?

Immerse yourself in your academic interests; get research experience; work hard. Get to know a handful of your professors, because you will need letters of recommendation later.

Just stick to general "get into med school" things. Do well in class, get an EC or two, +/- volunteerism that you actually want to do, that sort of thing.

Much, much more importantly: do what you can to get a better idea of what you're getting into with medical school and becoming a physician, much less something like a trauma surgeon.

And for the love of all things holy, have fun. You are a college student. You're supposed to have fun.

Just remember, there are going to be lots of times when you cant go out with your friends to such and such party/bar/random place to have fun.. but don't get discouraged. it's worth it in the long run to see that "...with Distinction, Magna Cum Laude" on your degree and cv. Keep everything in perspective.

Absolutely dont screw up freshmen year. Read the pre allo threads. I see one topic about every day about a low freshmen year gpa.

This is very true. I would take a light course load your first semester with no EC's just to get your bearings...find study habits that work for you and figure out how to establish a balance with your social life that you will need for the rest of your college career.

This does not mean take Biology, Chemistry, and Calculus your first semester.
