Does anyone know if other schools are notified if I accept an offer?

UNTHSC wants an answer by this week, but I don't have an interview with my top choice until next month. Should I just accept?

I highly doubt other schools are notified if you accept an offer
EDIT: Bad information, disregard my previous answer

Per the PTCAS application instructions, the answer is yes, any schools using PTCAS should have access to that information:

"Programs will notify applicants directly regarding all admission decisions. Any PTCAS program that offers you acceptance will have access to the number of acceptance offers you have received from other programs and the number of other offers you accepted. Programs will not know the total number of programs you applied to, nor admissions decisions other than acceptance made by other programs at that time. A program that has placed an applicant on a waitlist will not have access to that applicant’s admission status at other institutions. After the completion of the 2017–18 admissions cycle in fall 2018, programs then will be able to view applicants' other selected programs and the final admission decision reported by each."

FWIW I accepted offers, and then declined them when I received an offer from another school that was higher on my list. I also continued to receive interview offers after accepting. For example, I heard back in early October from TWU. I accepted, went to visit them and then decided to accept UNT instead. I did respond with a nice email to Mary Beth, thanking her for everything and letting her know I would be attending a different program. She responded by thanking me for letting them know. That was it. I then had other schools offer interviews and acceptances and I ultimately went somewhere else besides UNT. I did get an acceptance offer from UTHSCSA also, so it obviously wasn't an issue for them that I had accepted elsewhere. I think that schools can't expect you make a final decision this early in the process and they do expect changes. That's why they offer extensive wait lists. Perhaps in March or April, they may double check further to make sure no one is holding two spots. I don't know. Just sharing my experience and how I handled it. As long as different schools have different time frames, it is to be expected. My top choice school didn't let me know until December, but I wasn't going to not accept at UNT and let that go. Hope that helps. YMMV.

This does help! My situation is the same, I just want to be able to back out of UNT if I get accepted to UTHSCSA! And I definitely don't want my accepting of UNT's offer to hurt my chances of acceptance somewhere else. Thanks so much for the insight!

Yes, sorry I should have clarified that while they can see that kind of information, it shouldn't be an issue because they understand the game. I've seen on here that people have emailed certain programs letting them know that even though they have accepted elsewhere that said school is still their number one choice, they're still very interested, etc. Best of luck!

Then I am sure I will see you there, and good luck!

To my understanding this go round is only 30 of us, then they interview 70 more in december. Should get word back on this one before thanksgiving.

Fingers crossed, they are my number one choice as well!

Thanks for the info! Hopefully we're their top choices since we get interviewed first. I know at the UNT interview they said we were the "cream of the crop" so I felt a little better!

I went to the early interview at UTHSCSA last year in early November. I'm thinking I heard about acceptance in very early December. Hopefully it will be sooner this year. Good luck to everyone.
