Hi all,

I'm sorry if this has already been posted but I could not find it anywhere.

At our program we are asked to record every new patient we evaluate, the date we evaluated them, and their diagnosis. We were told that this was an ACGME requirement to ensure that the residents at the program were seeing a breadth of diagnoses. But it's hardly ever collected or asked for, and I've actually gone almost 3 years with never turning one in and noone coming to ask me for it specifically.

I cannot find this requirement that we submit case logs in the ACGME website. I see the case log system requirements for other specialties, mainly such as surgical ones who need to log procedures.

Does anyone else have a program who requests the same?

Or know of where in the ACGME guidelines / requirements that this is needed for psychiatric residencies?

Thank you

We used to have a log requirement for residents.
Very basic. But at every 6 months we could see exactly what types of patients they were seeing. One thing did start to show up (and easily corrected by assigning cases) was that certain residents preffered certain pathologies and would stay away from others.

Ah, Ok here is is from ACGME website:

"There must be a record that demonstrates
that each resident has met the educational
requirements of the program with regard to
variety of patients, diagnoses, and
treatment modalities. In the case of
transferring residents, the records should
include the experiences in the prior and
current program."
