I'm going to be on vacation when my residency program is offering its acls and bcls courses for new interns so now I have to find an alternate way to recertify and also have to pay for it. I'm just not sure if I should take an online course or register for an actual course.
I found an online course which isn't really a course--you just pay to take the test--both written and practical skills test are taken on line. But I don't feel I'll be prepared even if i study my whole acls book. I haven't actually been using these skills everyday so I feel I should take an actual course. I checked the american heart association website for courses but it seems to be down. Anyone have another site or any info on acls or what you did if you had not been able to attend your hospital's acls
Thanx! dani

I was looking into tihs as well. There was a couple threads about this in the general residency forum a couple months back...one of the threads provided this link, which allows you to recert, but not get an initial. Apparently if you're really in a bind, you can get the initial, but they make you promise to do the course.

Are you sure your hospital doesn't offer multiple dates? Also, many local hospitals have the courses run year-round. You might be able to get into one of those at a more convenient time.

Actually this is the one I signed up with---it's an online test and no course and you just prepare on your own but I got a refund because I don't feel comfortable just taking the test. This means I would have to study my whole acls book. I just want to be sure I pass and i'm not sure i would doing it this way. the skills portion too is online!
No unfortunately my hospital is only offering one date for acls. I am going to check with other hospitals to see if I can crash their course.
Thank you! dani
