ACLS before residency orientation?

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone had any information/thoughts as to whether or not ACLS should be taken prior to arriving at orientation for residency... or do programs typically offer this as part of their orientation. I'm going into internal medicine, likely at a University-based residency, so I would assume it would be offered. However, it's being offered this spring to me, and was wondering if I should take advantage of it now.

My program offered it and I know several others that do too. Your best advice is to contact your future residency program and see if its offered during orientation or if you are expected to come armed with your certificate.

At my med school it was a graduation requirement to be ACLS certified. But my residency program offered it too - I think the vast majority of residency programs will offer this, or at least give you info as to where you need to go to do it. I agree with the advice on contacting them. After you match you should receive info about this though.

Being ACLS-certified is also a requirement for graduation at my med school. However, several residency programs where I've interviewed have offered to set up (and pay for) classes before orientation begins.
