hey guys, i am starting OMS residency in a couple of wks...i have my mandatory acls certification on friday and the course director has been scaring me lately about it: "you better know your shot front and back b4 you get to class"...i mean i have never studied this kind of **** before, but I DID read the manual and did the pre-tests....any advise or words of wisdom from the veterans in this forum THAT HAVE TAKEN THE CLASS AND THE TEST IN THE PREVIOUS YRS? is it pretty easy to pass or is it gona be a rancid test/course?
thanx knuckleheads 😛

I guess it depends on who is teaching the class and what are the various students in the class. In general, it is pitched at the level of the person taking it. My general practice residents take it every year and everybody passes. I am sure there is a process of remediation if necessary. The most important things are to be able to identify the rhythms, know the algorithms and the specific drugs that go along with it.

hey...just took it about 4 months ago. The algorithms and drugs aren't too bad...strip interpretation might get a little tricky - that was the toughest part for me. Google ACLS and see what u find...there are some sweet pneumonics (can't think of any right now) out there!
Good luck!

They had the ACLS cards with our names printed on them before we even took the final written exam....they expected all of us to pass. If we didn't, the director would go over the questions you missed with you and then once you show him you understand, you pass. No one in my class failed the exam (included other residents, nurses, pharm students). I thought the megacode was going to be the big exam but it was kind of a joke. At least this was my experience. The hardest part was identifying the rhythms so look over those carefully and memorize the major drugs and doses for the specific scenario.
