Hi there,

SO I'm a final year medical student. I am interested in psychiatry and I am requiring for all psych programs, is ACLS certification required to apply? I've attempted ACLS courses twice already and didn't get through unfortunately. Its actually not a requirement for me to graduate med school but i was told to ask around if its needed for residency. I guess it varies depending on where you apply?

You'll do at least some time on medicine floors so you might be required to have it for that reason. My program had us complete ACLS during orientation.

How do you not have acls certification for med school? We had to get it before m3 year. Regardless, it doesn’t really matter since you’re doing psych and psych isn’t expected to know anything about codes aside from during your intern year for a couple months. Have fun.

Umm, you are still a doctor, I don't know about not knowing codes, we are still expected to be able to perform CPR on patient/parents when they come to our child clinic. Also, to the OP, if you work in a hospital, you will be required to be ACLS/BLS certified. This is usually done during orientation

My school did not offer ACLS for students. We got BLS and that was it.
