acls online

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Lots of the guys in my group have done this and I have to admit I did it as well. Here's the deal. You won't learn anything doing this. We are all practicing EPs in high acuity centers who do ACLS every day. Our professional college, ACEP, has a position that making board certified, practicing, residency trained EPs take merit badge courses like ACLS, PALS and ATLS is wrong. However many hospital corporations, like ours, demand it because they get an insurance break if we all get the badges. If you're a resident or student and you need to recert you'd be better served to take a real class through your institution.

how do you do this? Any sites would be helpful

have to be careful. Not all online ACLS ccourses are AHA, and therefore will not count with your hospital. There are several courses that are for nurses accredited by their organization and not the AHA.

How about this one?
I'm up for recert too, and really, really don't feel like giving up another Saturday on this...

It says that personal checkoffs using dummies isn't required, and isn't proven to be effective in studies.

I wonder if this is legit. At this point, I think I'd pay $175 to not give up a Saturday.

$175!! 😱 Can't your program pay for it? Mine does thank God! I could definitely put $175 to better use...a nice outfit with cute shoes comes to mind. 😉

Our hosptial offers it for free...but the paramedics teaching it here are on a power trip, like to fail residents, be rude and pejorative, and play "king for a day."

20 minutes in front of a computer compared to a lost Saturday might be worth the $175...I'm still not sure though.

One of the times I took ACLS, the medic who taught it was so uptight I jokingly said he acted like a drill instructor. He said, "I was one" and he wasn't kidding.

The ones at my program are also notorious for that kind of behaviour. They can kiss my butt. 😉 😀

Aren't you required to do a check-off in person?

Yes you do all the course and test online then schedule a 30min time slot with an instructer in your region to do the check off. At least that is how the AHA program works. Its called "heart code ACLS anywhere"

They also have a few other E-learning topics including PALS and BLS.
