Simple question-- I see on the ERAS application that ACLS/PALS certifications can be listed. Is this something we just leave blank on the application if we haven't done them yet? In other words, are these certifications we have to obtain prior to applying or do we get these courses during residency orientation?

Thanks for the clarification.

I got mine during orientation. The bonus was that I got ACLS paid for, since I did it as part of orientation, although I don't know if this is true at all programs. Those courses are normally quite expensive (in the $200 - $300 range, frequently).

Just leave those spaces blank if you haven't done them yet.

Yep, some programs will pay for it and provide it and some you have to find your own ACLS program then turn in a receipt if they'll pay for it at all.

I did my ACLS right after graduation, but I don't need it for another year. I just wanted to get it out of the way, then it'll be easier to recertify, and maybe I can do it with my class.

My intern year provided my PALS training for me.
