Just graduate residency last year. Need to renew my ACLS. I work week days and taking off is not an option, as I do not require ACLS for my current job and I doubt they would like it that I took a day off.

I googled and there are a few online courses, that offer complete online re-certification. Would this be Valid?

You still have to do the Megacode to get fully recertified (or at least you did last time I took it). You should ask the people who want you to have this merit badge what they want though.

The big question is what you need it for. If you have no need for ACLS for your job, you could just let it expire. If you need ACLS to maintain your credentials somewhere, there's a few different places to get it. Some require AHA certified ACLS, which requires you to do the megacode (takes under an hour) in person, but everything else can be done online. Others may want any paper that just says ACLS on it, in which case there's probably some random online person that will take your money in exchange for that piece of paper.

I need it as I moonlight as a hospitalist every now and then. I am assuming I would need it be active for that.

Just be careful, a lot of the online one's are scams. Well, I mean, anything that says you can do it all online is a scam right off the bat. And yes, that includes most of the first page on google.

AHA website allows you to do part 1 online, then you can go the practical part in person for 70-90 bucks in most towns. Lots of people need ACLS, you should be able to find a place to do the megacode renewal at a time you can fit it in.

Hmm

I just looked at my card. It does not technically have an expiration date. It simply says a recommended renewal date. Does that mean my card never expires?

There is an online option where you can do most of the stuff online and then you "test" in person. It's legit, that's how our residencyprogram does it. It's through AHA. I think the Red cross also offers legit courses.

No, the expiration date is the recommended renewal date.
