Hey everyone,

I was just wondering what you found was best for studying for the ACT and how you did. Also, what colleges are you looking at that require that score?

Thanks. 🙂

I didn't study. I walked in there and got an 18 first shot. I did well on the Reading and Math. But the science and the other section (I forgot) I didn't do so hot. I wish I would have studied 'cause I probably could have done way better. 18 without studying so studying could have significantly increased that score.

I'll say read alot to help with the reading section. Practice math. The conceptual things. If you get an ACT book or the practice packet that's fine aswell. To save money just hop online and keep taking practice problems under timed conditions. I find that the more familiar you are with the language of the test, the easier it'll be for you. A major challenge is time. The passages are really boring.

Many and most colleges that accept the SAT also accept the ACT.

Good luck with the test.

When I took the ACT back in 2007 I purchased an ACT study book and wound up getting a 26 on my try.

That being said just do your best to relax the day of the test and not to stress out.

I didn't study and ended up with a 18 not really well ,but it will get me in and that is all I need. I am retaking it so hopefully will have in the 20's somewhere.

I found the real act guide to be helpful. Just tackle a section a day under timed condititions, then immediately score it to see how you did. Trust me, it works-I went from a 25 to a 31. (between March and September). Don't take the June one right after exams-none of my friends did any better. If you have to take it again, take it in september-you'll be more refreshed. My 1st score was borderline, but the 2nd one-31-got me into umich.

I took it early in dec and got a 32 for first time. I did several practice tests though and had the prepare book, which really helps. For me it is basically a challenge for time to do the problems instead of the actual difficulty of content. btw the science sucks lol but good luck :xf:

I got a 24 my first try without study. Good enough I guess 🙂

science was hard at 1st-I got a 21 in science on my first test. But, once you time yourseslf and your speed gets up you will get better. It kind of stinks how few questions there are on that section b/c they count for a larger % of your score. My best science was a 30, so that shows how much it is possible to improve.

I recommend the Red Book. I honestly think the ACT is easier but I was cocky and went in with no prep and never looked at any material sadly not realizing the differences in the ACT. When I took the test I found out something I never knew which was "Underline and put a period." or something like that... This really messed up my english score so I did poorly without prep and got a high 26 (29 science, 30 math). With prep, I honestly think a 30-32 shouldn't be very hard at all.

Good luck!

26 No study no prep, Should i retake even if im already accepted? Will it somehow haunt me later?

No it should not affect you. If you have already been admitted to a college, then you should not worry. The whole point of the standardized tests is to compare peoples general knowledge and put everyone on the same playing field.
