When should AIs be completed with respect to application period? My 3rd year core clerkships do not end until the end of August due to some scheduling issues. Does this give me enough time to do an AI? Do AIs need to be completed before applying?

Well you won't be able to get a letter most likely, but it will be a true audition rotation - you're going to be there solely to make them want to rank you. Whereas AIs done in june-september are done for letters + learning as well.
