I've looked around in old threads and at some research articles to try to find which schools utilize this, but thought maybe I would ask. It also doesn't seem to be noted specifically in the MSAR anywhere, so before I go dig around all the individual med school sites....does anyone know which med schools use active learning/team based learning?

Edit: I don't want to double post this in the Osteopathic forum, but if you know of any DO schools that use AL/PBL please let me know of those too.

At this point, many do. It's just a matter extent. We use it during systems to discuss cases, but we're also revamping the entire curriculum and I think they are emphasizing it more. Personally, I'm not a big fan.

Here's a tip... try Googling
lcme "team based" "active learning"

LCME is the accreding body for medical schools so adding that as a search word along with your other key phrases will bring up papers and such related to medical education.

You're right, adding LCME made all the difference! Thank you for your timely response!

Yeah it really is just a matter of extent. Most schools will make this known (just go on their websites).

Personally not a fan, but I can tolerate it like 1 or 2 days a week.

Only a couple have made it easy to find on their sites. Mostly I've just been googling the name of the medical school and tagging on active learning or team based learning at the end.

Interesting. I just searched 3 random schools out of my head and it was pretty easy to find. Maybe I picked 3 easy ones.

Which ones did you pick? I was looking at mainly schools in Ohio--and it was easier to find research publications about active learning than it was to find a page on the med school web site.

I picked Vanderbilt, Hofstra, and one other. I looked up Case western and quickly found that it was very clear (50% group based 50% lecture based)

But you are absolutely right (I looked up more schools), some of the schools aren't very clear as to how their curriculum is. Miami for example....
