So I don't have a shadowing experience and I was thinking of listing some hours from my medical assistant job towards physician shadowing. My question is, is it okay to list the same organization name or would that look bad on the application? i have 715 hours as an MA, would 50 hours be enough for shadowing?

Also for an unpaid clinical research assistant position, would you list is as Community Service/ Volunteer- Medical/ Clinical or Research/lab on the AMCAS? I was basically conducting in person interviews and collecting data. I don't have any research experiences except that so I thought I might list it as research.

I worked as a cashier for 3 months. Is it worth it to include it in the application?

For Hobbies and Awards, should I put 0 for hours? and can I list the contact info as myself?

Sorry this is a dumb question but would you consider Precalculus as Math or Calculus in ACCOMAS?

I'm not entirely sure so I'd defer to other people on this answer but I don't think that would work? Because I'd assume shadowing as a role is entirely different than medical assisting (unless you were actually shadowing doctors you worked with).

I listed my unpaid clinical research position as research/lab!

I think being a cashier is great honestly. It shows you have real life experience, which is something a lot of pre meds might not have!
Hobbies I put 999 and yes I put myself for both. Awards I put 0.

I would say math? But I'm pretty sure both count as the M in BCPM so like I don't think they'd look too much into it.

Once again, I'm just a pre med so idk if I have the BEST advice on the first one especially but that's just what I think 🙂 hope that helps and good luck this cycle!!

Carving out some of your MA hours and calling them Shadowing (if you spent that amount of time observing physicians) is fine. Fifty hours is good, but don’t double count them. There’s no problem using the same Contact and Organization for two spaces.

I agree with the other answers you got above.

Does this work if you are a pca (nurses aide) as well? I have definitely been in the room when doctors are alot and I'm sure they would technically count as shadowing

If you were observing physicians during their interactions with patients, without being distracted by other duties, then you may have a case for calling it shadowing. You can decide.

I am wondering, if you had physician contacts through work, why you did not ask for some dedicated shadowing time?

I've tried before honestly most of the doctors on my floor only talk to the nurses. I have never seen anyone shadow them in the 2.5 years I've worked there. The only place I've heard people shadow at is the ed which I'm trying to get into

Thank you all! One more question, would it be okay to copy and paste the award/scholarship description and then talk about why it was awarded to me? and would you combine two awards in one section?

Don’t copy and paste! You risk the formatting getting messed up. And if you don’t paraphrase the description, you’ll have to use characters to cite your source.

It is fine to group two recognitions in one space.
