activity section..include half-marathons?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yes! Hobbies/sports activities can absolutely be included.

👍👍 to you! I'm prepping for a measly 5K so a half-marathon is like 😱

It might help you connect with an adcom member... we have cross country bike riders, marathon participants and Iron Man competitors in our group.

You want to be not just numbers and not just cookie cutter activities (shadowing, volunteering, research) but something that shows that you have interests outside of medicine/school.

Sure, I included them on mine and they were brought up by several interviewers.

Maybe I'll apply to a school with some power lifting Adcom members. Plz plz plz :luck:.

Most definitely! In all my interviews the marathons that I had run were brought up the most. One of my interviews we just talked about her upcoming training for the NY marathon.

Absolutely. I noted that I liked cycling and trail running in my application and one of my interviewers went off about how good the local trail system was and spent near 5 minutes telling me about this long (150+ miles) cycling route that started nearby and how his kids ride it every year (he was older). He also spent time telling me about local barbeque joints and baseball, since I asked about the best bbq around and said I liked my hometown baseball team.

Those activities make you an individual. Believe it or not medical schools want individuals, not just MCAT scores with legs and arms.
