Hello,

I was wondering if there is anyone else who has heard about the American Diabetes Certification that DPM's, PA', and MD/DO's are able to obtain through seminars and tests?

This is something that I was considering when I set up shop. Does anyone know what limitations that Podiatrists may have on counseling Diabetic patients?

I thought this article was interesting in regards to Diabetic Patients and fitting shoes for them.

This is the part that gets me:

The certifying physician may not furnish the footwear unless he or she practices in a defined rural area or area where there is a shortage of health professionals. The prescribing podiatrist may be the supplier.

I personally believe that Podiatrists who deal with many Diabetic patients should always have the option to furnish footwear for patients, regardless of area.

I am sure that it will be an added bonus to be certified in Diabetic Education. It will allow you to work as a Diabetic Educator. However, most DPMs educate patients in regards to Diabetic Foot care during the Diabetic patient initial visit.
