"Can I answer that?" From an interviewee to whom the question was NOT asked in a group setting.

Me: Where are you from?
Them: Xtown....[ then proceeds to talk for about 2 minutes about their life story]
Me [thinking] I just asked you a simple question


Me: [ gives softball question that a five-year-old can answer]
Them: [deer in the headlights look, and then there's a 60 second pregnant pause] I don't know.
