Slow down there, tiger! I'm a big avalanches fan (remember, we have the same taste in music).

Reading these comments (and yes, viewing the video--about 2 min of it, anyway) in juxtaposition with the GWU suicidality issue, I've got to admit I'm more than vaguely disturbed. There may be "nothing wrong with how this overtly talented group can mix up a session" but there is something wrong about how it perpetuates stigma, I think. 🙁 Or are you guys so comfortable with compartmentalizing your professional interests from your musical tastes that that didn't occur to you? (Not accusing, believe me--sometimes art is just art--but it just struck me all wrong this AM...)

I think the subject of any stigma here would be the psychiatrist rather than the mentally ill patient, and as such I have no more problem with it than I do Silence of the Lambs, Batman Begins, ****oo's Nest, or What About Bob?. The song itself is actually a series of samples from movies of the 50s and 60s that portrayed the stereotypical greybeard analyst. If I felt there was any slight here about the mentally ill, I would be appropriately indignant, but I do reserve the right to laugh at myself and my own profession.

GET OUT WHERE ARE THEY PLAYING? GET OUT - <faints dead away> I thought Thom was on a break! Are they releasing something I'm not aware of? I haven't been to the website in a while - been busy ya know?

btw, I did see Paul Oakenfold spinning Radioheads 'fade out' at the Roxy in NY - jealous? I cried - positive tears of joy!

OPD: that song is mocking the iatrists, not the mentally ill!

I don't know, I can buy that, I guess, just like I can buy that Frasier, "What about Bob", etc mock the psychiatrists while also playing peoples' problems for laughs---but that constant refrain of "'that boy needs therapy' its psychosomatic, hes a nut! HES CRAZY IN THE COCONUTS!" just grated on me as the kind of labeling, pre-judgment, and bias that got that kid booted from GWU because he was asking for help.

/SOAPBOX off

They're playing 2 nights at the Harborlights Pavillion here in Boston... seeing Bloc Party there in July also. Radiohead is on a full US tour this summer, playing new stuff that they're trying to work out for the album.
