Hi guys,
I'm a re-applicant.

little about me:
36(12 even)R/3.8 from an honors program
2 years research and 2 pubs on the way
1 year clinical volunteering with a mental health organization and some short term ones here and there
job as a medical translator
lots of extracurriculars (inc community service... mostly urban outreach kind of stuff) and leadership, art, 1 year physician mentorship with a neurosurgeon. canadian engaged to my long term boyfriend in NYC, so i'm applying mostly northeast.

and so far I've applied to these schools:

Tufts
Columbia
Albert Einstein
Mt. Sinai
SUNY Upstate
Boston U
Rosalind Franklin
Wash U (family ties - also sad i didn't apply last year.)
NYMC

I'm complete at most, and I am looking at adding more schools:

Northwestern
Cornell
Yale
UConn
Virginia Commonwealth

I realize my list is quite top-heavy, but I'm kind of stuck as a lot of schools where I might be more competitive (Temple, Drexel), I would need to be a permanent resident first.

What other schools would you recommend that I add?

What other schools would you recommend that I add?

1. Why do you think you didn;t get in last year, what have you changed since then, and what was your list like?
2. I would FOR SURE add more safeties, especially since you are a reapplicant (most of us have 30+ schools our second time around).
3. You don't need to be a permanent resident at temple or drexel, so I'm not sure what you mean.

I would add MCW, SLU, Loyola, Creighton, U of Vermont, Iowa Carver, etc if you are looking for a better chance.

Either way, good luck and I hope you get in, I know how it is to be a re-app.

Agree with adding more schools. Doesn't U of Vermont take a lot of out of staters? How about Dartmouth? Those are some top, top schools you applied to, and I'm not sure how being Canadian will affect things. You seem like a competitive applicant, but I'd add more safety schools.

1. the admissions officer i talked to said i basically didn't have enough clinical hours (i've doubled it since then, and had a physician mentorship through the school) and I applied too late (MCAT scores came in late and i didn't realize it was so important to get everything in well before the app deadline). i only applied to like 7 US schools + my alma mater last time around in the northeast, and it was definitely too top heavy.
2. Both Temple and Drexel's admissions website say they only consider US citizens and permanent residents.
3. I'll add those schools. thank you!

So my 2nd round of new schools, I've picked are:

Northwestern
Cornell
Yale
UConn
Virginia Commonwealth
St Louis Univ
Dartmouth
Case Western
MCW
U Vermont

I was also looking at Commonwealth Medical COllege - it seems like it opened in 2009, and is still being accredited... would I be screwing myself over if I applied and got in and they didn't get accredited? Same with Virginia Tech's med school... I can't seem to find much information on either schools except on their websites.

I think you should add more schools, and also a few as a safety net in case=]

Are you a US citizen, not a US citizen but have permanent resident status (green card), or are you an international applicant?

If you answered yes to either of the first two then you're eligible for application to nearly all medical schools in the US as far as I know, including Temple and Drexel. It wasn't clear to me whether you interpreted this correctly or you took "permanent resident" to mean a resident of PA.

Oh and if you were looking at Temple and Drexel, Jefferson is a good school too.
