Hi,

I want to apply early (June) and I have most of my materials ready. The issue is that I have 3.1 cumulative/2.9 science GPA so my DAT score will play a huge part in determining what schools are realistic to apply to. I'm taking it June 24 which seems late to start new applications to schools. I am starting an SMP in the fall to help with my GPA.

I feel like most people who compile school lists on sdn already have their DAT scores available. Has anyone taken the DAT later like I am? Did it affect your list of schools much?

Thank you!

I would wait for your scores to apply. June 24 is still early your app will be complete by the end of July which is still early. Your gpa is on the lower side so I would wait to see how you score on the dat to make your school list and apply... Bc that score will have a big impact on where you should apply.

Thanks for the input.. So I shouldn't apply to ANY schools before I get my scores? Doesn't the SMP factor into it at all? I figured I would at least apply to the 4 NY schools and the expensive private schools (BU, Tufts, USC...) and then hopefully add some state schools based on my DAT

Does it factor into applying before your application is ready - no for two reasons:

1. An SMP is useful when you have grades for it that show you can handle a courseload similar to dental school classes. Having not started the SMP yet, there's not much for adcoms to consider.

2. With the exception of a handful of schools, your application won't be looked at until it is complete, which includes having your DAT score in. Without it, your application is simply placed on hold. SMP or no SMP won't change that.
