Hello everyone. I am a pre dent noob : (

I was just wondering if tuition costs indicated on school websites cover things such as your 'tool kit' (for the lack of better term as far as my limiting knowledge goes) and other stuffs.

If not, how much extra are you expected to spend just for school? (so things like room, living, food doesn;t count).

I can speak for USC because Im here and was surprised about the extra cost. The tool kit, it is extra for us. The library sold it to us for $3800. Includes, slow/fast speed, typodont, wax blocks, craving tools and various other stuff (plastic ruler, lighter and stuff). The extra cost also include books, which surprised me. The scrubs (7) were included in the tutition. Living is all on your own, around here its about $1000 that includes room, food, and stuff. Parking at the school is $400 a trimester.

Half the stuffs in the kit you will never touch and eventually ends up collecting mold somewhere in the basement of your future practice.

Every year your school will calculate the estimated living expenses to attend. This includes everything from tuition, rent, to travel. This is the maximum amount that you are allowed to take out for a loan. If you feel like your living style may exceed this estimated number, then you will have to take out your own private loan.

Yup. The amount they give you is more than generous, especially east coast schools. NYU "tuition" is not 70k per year guys, but thats the amount you get to take out of a loan 🙂
