I’m currently in grad school and my spouse works as a nurse at the hospital attached to the university and the medical school. I’m hoping to go to said medical school for many reasons, one of those being that her employer match would be fully vested by the time I’d graduate. Should I mention her employment at the hospital in the secondary question asking for additional information? I doubt it would move the needle but at the same time it seems I might as well mention it.

Note, I’m applying 26-27.

I have always found spousal employment to be one of the most useful things to know about, as it can be a major factor in school selection.

I would not mention the vesting aspect.
Thank you, this is helpful. I will mention her employment, and leave out the vesting. I only included the latter since it was first on my mind after looking at our finances. My spouse would like to stay since the hospital has provided ample opportunity for further certification, training, and is planning to move to a higher acuity floor. We’re aware this is available at other hospitals too but it would be great to continue here.

This is more meaningful in an area where the next nearest medical school is more than 1-2 hours away by car. In some densely populated areas with multiple medical schools, it is less relevant.
That makes sense. There’s one other medical school within driving distance. Thankfully it’ll be easy for her to find work if we need to move for med school.

As a follow up to my initial question, what other personal information would be relevant to add here to this section?

If you have or plan to have children? They can't ask you for potential discrimination, but you should volunteer if you have kids and their needs.

But mentioning your wife is employed as a nurse in the area should be sufficient.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I have a similar question. My fiancee is starting graduate school at the same campus I had an interview. Is this worth sending an update letter for? Thanks!
