when a student is accepted to the mstp program, is he/she also admitted to the particular grad school too, or just the medical school at first?

I'm considering doing bioinformatics, but I won't be able to get any of the pre-reqs by the time I graduate undergrad. I'm considering applying to mstp first and once in med school, figure something out to get the necessary experience to get a bioinformatics PhD.

this depends on the school. the word on the street is that mstp students rarely have problems, however, it is generally up to the specific department to admit you to their graduate program. the non-traditional for md/phd people departments generally are less friendly to mstp people in terms of skipping requirements (classes, gres, etc).

the only way to get a real answer to this question is to ask the specific departments that you are interested in joining.
