Hey do any of you know if adcoms can find out if you've taken any other admissions tests like the MCAT, the GRE, OAT, etc? How would they even be able to find out?? Social? Is that even legal?

I doubt it...Maybe if you apply to a medical program and a dental program at the same application cycle at the same school...Maybe. But for the most part no. At most schools, they are at different departments and different buildings.

Sorry about bringing up an old thread. But I'm getting antsy waiting for decisions. Was never asked about my mcat scores in interviews, but I have heard that schools can use your social security number to look up whether or not you've taken the MCAT...Is this true? How would they have access to this kind of information? Again I never applied to medical school, I just took the MCAT (and scored pretty well) but I realized medicine was not the right career path for me.

Texas schools ask if you have taken any other test. If you lie and say no, they will revoke your acceptance. Why don't you just let the schools know if they ask? If they don't ask, then there is no point mentioning it.

I hope they can find this information out. I don't know why pre-medical applicants would be applying to dentistry anyway.

Maybe because they realized medicine was not for them... And dentistry is

Well, I just hope they will be able to differentiate between who actually came to this realization and who only realized it after they couldn't get into medicine.

Hey NN,

You are working about the wrong thing. No they will not find out if you have taken MCAT or not...

If they really Really want to... they have to go out of their way and they have to be associated w/ med school to have access to such info.

(IS IT ILLEGAL? as long as you wont know everything is legal on your rejection letter wont say that but read the rest of the post)

Here is the reason they will not do this... Its none of their concern just b/c you have taken mcat that does not automatically make you uninterested in dentistry OR less competitive. + waste of many days for Secretary's office

Premed and predental are the same EXACT thing. We take the same exact courses, as for predental some schools require more science classes. THATS IT... + even if you took the MCAT.

YOU WENT THROUGH THE SAME EXACT PROCESS AND struggles as a predental student. That alone should prove your interest b/c you have committed to it by attending their interviews etc...

SO what i am trying to say is IT SHOULD NOT MATTER and NO THEY WILL NOT CHECK. I have multiple friends who went though the same process and were successful. Rest easy my friend and good luck on dec1.

May i ask how does that make any difference?...

In many countries your grades define what you are going to be. ie. Doctor, Dentist, eye doc, .... engineer... teacher... clerk etc...

In many countries students who want to become Doctor so bad miss by couple points and the only other option for health field that they can get into is dentistry, and if those points are lower then eye doctor,etc... Now they are not going to give up their dream of being a doctor so they chose to become a dentist and that does not make their quality of work that they do or the education that they get any different form a person who realized since their "child birth".

Especially adcoms know this if they are applying and show interest in dentistry via personal statement and have grades, dat scores, etc... why would that make that person less eligible to become a dentist, even though in the past they wanted to become medical doctors. Does it make any difference they are willing to put in hard work and go through it...

Why don't you just worry about yourself. So what if pre-meds switch over to dentistry. Its common and why would this even make you upset? Not everyone has their life planned out.

I'm...not upset? I don't know what gave you that idea. But anyways, that's a great point. Pre-Meds should definitely use this explanation if asked in an interview. It's a good one.

Really? From my knowledge, AADSAS has a section where it asks you if you have taken any pre-health admissions tests other than the DAT

Have you previously, or are you currently applying to a health profession school other than dental school?

this is the q. they ask on aadsas 🙂

So if you say Yes, does that pretty much guarantee that schools will reject you?

I mean, I'm sure most schools wont be fond of applicants who are applying to both medical and dental school - and using the latter as a backup.

Not sure, but i dont think it will look good stating it... might even act against you.

+ i dont not believe they can find out or put the effort to find out.

Your previous posts indicate that you are upset about pre meds applying to dental school.

What I stated is not an explanation as to why pre meds pursue dentistry. But there are a number of reasons. Let me give you some examples because obviously you are completely confused over this phenomenon: shadowing M.D's = boring and shadowing DDS/DMD = exciting, better life style, no 3-4 yr residency, business aspect - being your own boss and in your own practice, social/physical aspects of dentistry.

NoseNorton, As long as you are committed and applying to one profession it should not matter if you have taken another admissions test. Being competitive is what matters most to adcoms.

The more poignant question is why are you reluctant to disclose the info should it be asked? You appear to have been a busy bee sampling the flowers in the garden and it is conceivable that one might wonder if, after gaining acceptance to ds, the nectar from PCAT, LSAT, VCAT might prove too magnetic, not to mention that time might have been more wisely spent shadowing the various professions before diving into the entrance exams.
