Who knows what the advantage of this is when you have a lower MCAT and have a retake set for late summer? Why not just get your app in the hands of as many schools as possible and then just call them and ask them to revisit your app once you have your new and hopefully improved scores?

The advantage is that your application is verified and you don't have to wait an additional 6 weeks.

Oh, and schools won't look at your application until it is complete, meaning you are not going to take the MCAT again. You have to list the date of your test on your app if you want to retake.

If you only apply to one school at the beginning, you are verified and ready to go. If you score low on the MCAT, you only lose like $200 on apps versus thousands.

Because you may get screened/forgotten about if your score is really bad (supposedly).

If you wait to add the school when you get your new score back, the first time that they see your application it will already have your new score.

And while you wait for your score to come out you can complete secondaries.

Couldn't I always call them and ask them to revisit my application? I guess I am trying to determine what is better, having it in their hands early and asking them to revisit with updated score or submitting late with a better score?

I am curious about this too. My first score was decent (29Q - taken last year), but I want to see if I can squeeze a few more points. Will they really set my app aside to wait for my retake?? If so, I might not even bother retaking.
