Hi everyone!

I've just been told by someone that interviewing late (last day of MMIs) is a disadvantage because that is the day that all of the 'keeners' want. They were saying that they wanted the first day, when they don't have anyone to compare to.

I had a moment where my heart dropped because that was precisely the date and slot that I chose (for several reasons -- I wanted to have enough time to make the drive down to the city to do it, I felt that I wanted to have the time to properly prepare myself mentally, I felt that, if I chose the early date I would end up freaking out over it and then handicap myself, etc etc etc).
I was under the impression that the MMI evaluators look at each candidate as independently as they could, so it shouldn't matter when you interview.

At this point, I'm just telling myself that there's no point in wasting energy worrying about things that are hearsay. If I perform well, who cares which date I get.

What are your thoughts?

From what I understand, MMI evaluations are normalized such that you are only compared to those other interviewees that interviewed on the same day with the same interviewer/evaluator. That should theoretically control for the late date in the interview season.

As far as I am aware of, the admission committees usually look for strange patterns that might be associated with the slot or primacy/recency effects and try to minimize it. So, yes it does nor really matter when you go IMO.

I had a relatively late interview day and I was the last MMI interview group and I got accepted at that school. I'm not naturally a morning person, and though I still woke up early for the interview, it was nice to get ready, do some prep, and eat some breakfast without feeling rushed, which only would have added to my stress. If later in the day is better for you, then later that day is better for you. They wouldn't be offering interviews at that day and time and using resources to do so, if they thought it was going to be a waste or if they thought they would not be able to evaluate you fairly at that time.
