Good Afternoon Goro and LizzyM,

I hope you are doing well.

When you have a moment I would appreciate your thoughts on my future application.

I am a urm (black), non-traditional student (graduated in 2013) with an undergraduate gpa of 3.45, sgpa 3.5.

In 2017 I enrolled in a SMP-like program (Masters of Arts in Biomedical Science - taught at a medical school) my graduating gpa was a 3.27

Volunteer experience ~200 hours
Clinical experience ~2000hr
Minimal research experience (2 research centered courses in undergrad)

My practice MCAT scores right now are in the ~510-512 range and I plan to take the exam in June.

The MCAT is my main focus right now ... but I don't know what else I can do for my application that will "make up" for my poor performance in the SMP program. If you have advice or even words of encouragement I would be very grateful.

Thank you,
🙂

Thank you so much for the response @Goro 🙂

I missed school and learning so much - so I actually convinced myself that an SMP would be a good introduction to medical school (I didn't adapt as quickly as I needed to - to excel in the program). My SMP was challenging and my gpa doesn't indicate that I succeeded but I grew so much as a person through the rigor of the program. In the end I was pleased that made the decision.

Would you consider a 511 a decent MCAT (considering my poor graduate gpa)?

I am interested in DO school and my state's MD school
