Hi, I got accepted to AZCOM and I'm pretty confident TUCOM-LV will accept me too because I had a great interview. I wanted to know if anyone has had to make this decision in the past and if anyone can offer me advice. I liked the surrounding areas for both schools and the students were equally friendly and enthusiastic. As far as board rates, rotations, and residency placements, which school would be the better choice? Any comments on the repuations of these schools or any other comments would be really appreciated. Thanks!

I don't know about TLV but AZCOM board pass rates are usually around 98% and people regularly get accepted to competitive residencies.

I would go with AZCOM hands down. Touro NV is so new, anything could happen. I was accepted at Touro (in San Francisco) but opted for AZCOM because of superior board pass rates and a more established curriculum. I got the impression that Touro was still majorly tweaking their curriculim to find a system to better pass the boards. Touro NV will obviously be doing curriculum tweaking as it's brand new. AZCOM's curriculum has been proven in the past.

This is a misconception that people have of Touro-LV. It's not gonna be "tweaking the curriculum".... they've been fully accredited already because they follow the California curriculum. It's a new location, Touro is not a brand new school. And about board scores, this is off of the TUCOM-CA website:
Board Scores: We have received the current scores for the COMLEX Level 1 examination and are happy to report a 95% pass rate! This compares favorably with the national average of 93.4%.
. Don't expect Las Vegas to be any different... again, it's a new location, not a new curriculum nor "brand new" school. It's a proven curriculum obviously. 👍 I'd vote to go where you felt you want to be spending the next 3-4 years... campus, faculty, outside of school living, etc. As for me, I chose Touro because it met all of my needs as mentioned above and cancelled my AZCOM interview... but only you will know what is best for you.

I can tell you that I love AZCOM. The staff and teachers really set you up to succeed. I also had the choice between TOURO-LV, TOURO, and AZCOM...and it was easy for me to choose AZCOM. But I will say that not all schools for made for all people. It depends on what you want and factors that mean the most to you.

to those having to choose between several schools:
first of all congrats for your success in interviews and acceptances. now to answer the questions. i agree with going to a place that has a proven track record, which both AZCOM and Touro have, but i also have to say go where you feel most comfortable. if you go to a great school but are miserable in your environment how well do you think you will end up doing. TUNV has top notch faculty including one of the most respected and published OMT profs, an MD and prof from John Hopkins, local MDs and DOs, and many others. TUNV also has some of the most personable faculty and students i have ever had the pleasure of meeting. this makes for a very comfortable learning and social environment. i feel comfortable and welcome.
so basically go with your gut instinct and i think everything will turn out for the best.

Eric - TUNV MS-1

AZCOM for sure.

TUCOM-NV all the way!

I LOVED the people/faculty/staff of TURO Mare Island, if it is at all like that in LV that will rock for them!

I am from Las Vegas and I hope that the school does really well and grows like crazy there!!!
I wish that it were there 2 years ago! However, the choice of location (a business complex off the E. 95 by the valley auto mall) was a bit surprising!

Does anyone who will be going there have any reliable info as to how/where your 3rd and 4th year rotations will be? Will you share UMC with UNSOM, will it be mostly preceptor based, etc.?

Dean Forman has mentioned that we will have rotations at UMC and Valley. Other sites are being worked on also!
