I am a high school senior, entering into the 0-6 program this Fall. This website has offered me a wealth of information, regarding the 0-6 programs. Now that all my applications are done and I have received most of my acceptances, I just wanted share what Ive learned as a High School applicant into the direct entry programs:
-Visit Campuses BEFORE senior year. During the summer before your senior year, go look at schools. TRY to get an interview and meet with the admissions people. I think this goes a LONG ways.
-Apply EARLY. Most 0-6 programs accept applications ant time after Sept 1, and many have an Oct 1 deadline.
-Try to get a job as a pharmacy tech. In my state, you dont have to be 18 to become state-certified. You gain a wealth of info (and it may turn you off to pharmacy, which would be a good time to learn it may not be for you) and it gives you the ability to get recommendations from pharmacists.
-Dont be alarmed when you read the stats: Stats are deceiving. Dont think you wont get in based on the info posted. Actually call the college and ask questions.
- Send a resume along with your application and include EVERYTHING including volunteer work, intramural sports, tutoring, mentoring, foreign language/cultural experience. Great grades are good but they want to know youre the whole package
-Send references and include the essay even when theyre optional.
-Communicate with your guidance office. Let your guidance counselor know how imperative it is to get your application out as early as possible. Some may be clueless of the early deadlines for this particular program
Thanks to all of you the have posted information and answered my questions now I just have the decision of deciding where to go yikes
