Hello,

I am currently in optometry school and starting to think about the direction I would like to go in after graduation. I am conducting research this summer as part of my OD/MS program, but I have decided not to pursue my PhD after receiving my OD + MS. Now that I am no longer interested in academia , I am starting to think about residency and/or different types of practice settings.

What advice would you give to current optometry students about the future of the profession + what would you have done differently? Why did you go into private practice vs. corporate vs. OD/MD vs. specialty... etc. ?

I don't see the reason of gong for residency unless you want to work at a a hospital setting. Everyone I know who had their residency are working in cooperate. Absolute zero benefits.
